About Mount Magazine State Park
Mount Magazine State Park: Arkansas's Highest Point and a Scenic Haven in the River Valley

We are Mount Magazine State Park, Arkansas's premier mountaintop destination and home to the state's highest point at 2,753 feet. Perched atop the dramatic summit in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests, we offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Petit Jean River Valley, Blue Mountain Lake, deep canyons, and distant ridges—making us a year-round escape for relaxation, adventure, nature study, and outdoor exploration. Located at 16878 AR-309 South, Paris, AR 72855 (just a short drive from Booneville in Logan County), we welcome visitors from Booneville, Magazine, Paris, and the broader River Valley to experience the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that define our unique plateau.

As Arkansas's highest elevation, Mount Magazine provides cooler temperatures (often 10–15 degrees below the valley floor in summer), sweeping vistas, and a diverse ecosystem that draws hikers, rock climbers, hang gliders, mountain bikers, horseback riders, backpackers, and ATV enthusiasts alike. We are one of the state's most dramatic spots for technical rock climbing and one of only two parks with designated hang gliding launch areas. Our trails and overlooks showcase the mountain's rich biodiversity, including rare plants like the Ozark chinquapin, abundant wildlife, and stunning seasonal changes—from vibrant fall foliage to mild winter retreats.
Key attractions and activities include:
-
- Scenic Overlooks and Drives: Cameron Bluff Overlook Drive and other pullouts for breathtaking valley views.
- Hiking and Backpacking: A network of trails for all levels, from easy nature walks to more challenging paths highlighting the mountain's geology and ecology.
- Extreme Adventures: Technical rock climbing, rappelling, hang gliding, mountain biking, horseback riding (check for current equine restrictions like Equine Herpesvirus alerts), backpacking, and ATV riding guided services available.
- Interpretive Programs: Year round programs led by park interpreters, focusing on natural diversity, wildlife, and conservation e.g., Dating Advice from Birds events in February 2026.
- Picnic Areas and Pavilions: Scenic spots with tables, grills, and a rentable pavilion.
- Visitor Center: Features exhibits, a gift shop, and information desk open daily in peak season with adjusted winter hours.
