About Lions Club

No photo description available.  Booneville Lions Club—a dedicated group of caring citizens and volunteers proudly serving Booneville, Magazine, and the surrounding areas of South Logan County as part of Lions Clubs International. Our club has long been an integral part of this community, uniting local residents, business owners, educators, retirees, and community leaders who are committed to the Lions motto: "We Serve." We focus on addressing community needs through volunteer service, fundraising, and partnerships that make meaningful, lasting differences—especially in vision care, youth support, health, and general community enhancement.

We serve Booneville—a historic community founded around 1828 as one of the oldest towns in western Arkansas, originally settled near the Petit Jean River in the Arkansas River Valley and now home to approximately 3,800 people. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Magazine State Park—the state's highest point at 2,753 feet—and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Ouachita Mountains, our town offers a peaceful rural lifestyle enriched by outdoor recreation, family farms, small businesses, local schools, healthcare facilities, churches, youth programs, and community events. In this setting, where unpredictable weather, winding rural roads, agricultural operations, and the everyday needs of families, seniors, and children shape daily life, service organizations like ours are vital in providing eye care resources, supporting those in need, and strengthening community bonds through practical, neighborly help.

The Booneville Lions Club specializes in a range of service projects and initiatives tailored to our local rural Arkansas realities, with a signature emphasis on fighting blindness and vision loss while extending to broader humanitarian efforts:

  • Vision Care and Eyeglass Recycling: As Lions worldwide are best known for combating blindness, we collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids for recycling and redistribution to those in need—both locally and through international programs. We maintain collection sites and promote awareness to ensure affordable vision access for community members facing financial or other barriers.
  • Community Support and Humanitarian Projects: We volunteer for various local needs, including food assistance, health initiatives, disaster response support, and aid for families or individuals during challenging times—drawing on Lions' global network while keeping efforts focused on Booneville and Magazine.
  • Youth Programs and Education: We support youth through programs like the Peace Poster Contest (encouraging young artists to promote peace), youth camps and exchanges, Lions Quest (a character-building curriculum), and our Leo Club for young members who lead service projects. These help build leadership, global awareness, and community involvement among local kids.
  • Fundraising and Local Events: We organize events, drives, and fundraisers to support our projects—such as collections, community gatherings, or partnerships that raise resources for vision services, youth activities, and other needs. All proceeds go directly back into community service.
  • Broader Civic Engagement: We collaborate with schools, churches, the South Logan County Chamber of Commerce, police, and other groups on clean-ups, health fairs, senior support, and initiatives that address everyday challenges in our rural area.

The benefits of our club's work reach throughout Booneville and South Logan County:

  • Vision-Focused Impact: By providing recycled eyewear and promoting eye health, we help prevent vision impairment and improve quality of life for residents who might otherwise go without.
  • Volunteer-Driven and Inclusive: Our members contribute time, skills, and enthusiasm; we welcome new members from all backgrounds who want to serve—no prior experience required, just a desire to help.
  • Strong Community Partnerships: Working alongside local anchors ensures our efforts are targeted, efficient, and truly responsive to Booneville's unique needs.
  • Fellowship and Purpose: Regular meetings offer opportunities for planning, sharing ideas, and building friendships among dedicated locals committed to service.

As part of Lions Clubs International—the world's largest service club organization with a legacy since 1917—our Booneville club upholds the tradition of answering community challenges with action and compassion. From collecting glasses to support vision programs, to backing youth leadership and local causes, we're deeply invested in Booneville's people and future.

We welcome visitors, new members, or anyone interested in our projects—follow updates, view photos of our activities, or connect via our Facebook page (Booneville Lions Club). You can also reach out through the South Logan County Chamber of Commerce, contact club members listed in local directories (such as past officers like Russell Bryan), or inquire about meeting times and locations (often held regularly in Booneville). Whether you're a resident looking to give back, a family benefiting from our programs, or someone passionate about community service, join us in making a difference—one project, one neighbor at a time.

Serving Booneville and Magazine is at the heart of who we are—because when we come together to help, our rural community grows stronger, healthier, and more connected under these Ouachita skies.
