About Boys & Girls Club of South Logan County

Boys & Girls Club of South Logan County: Great Futures Start Here in Booneville

The Boys & Girls Club of South Logan County (BGC SLC), proudly serving youth since 2001, embodies the national motto "Great Futures Start Here!" as a vital community resource in Booneville and surrounding areas of southern Logan County, Arkansas. This nonprofit organization provides safe, fun, and inclusive after-school and out-of-school programming for children and teens ages 6–18, focusing on academic enrichment, character development, good citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Through caring, trained staff and positive mentors, the Club equips young people with the skills, values, and support needed to succeed in school, community, and life.

The Club operates from its main facility at 751 Kennedy Avenue, Booneville, AR 72927, with after-school hours typically from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday (aligned with school schedules; closures during inclement weather follow local school announcements, shared via social media and news channels). In 2011, it expanded to include teen-specific services with a Teen Center in partnership with the First United Methodist Church, offering age-appropriate activities for older youth. Further outreach came in 2018 with an extension site in Magazine, developed in collaboration with the Magazine School District, broadening access across South Logan County.

Core programs emphasize holistic youth development:

  • Academic Enrichment: Homework help, learning activities, and skill-building to boost school success.
  • Character and Leadership: Opportunities to develop integrity, responsibility, and positive values.
  • Health and Wellness: Physical activities, nutrition education, and fun recreation to promote healthy habits.
  • Teen-Focused Initiatives: Specialized programming for adolescents, fostering independence and future readiness.

The Club partners closely with the United Way of Fort Smith Area as a year-round collaborator, supporting efforts across a six-county region and leveraging community resources for greater impact. Additional partnerships with local organizations, businesses, schools, and churches enable quality mentoring and programming in a welcoming environment.

Community events and recognitions highlight the Club's influence. Recent highlights include celebrating 2025 Youth of the Year Gracie Strain, honored for her creativity, kindness, compassion, and leadership—she inspires peers and plans to attend Arkansas Tech University. Fundraising efforts like Friendsgiving, Cocoa Crawl, Bean Dinner, Pie Auction, and sponsorship opportunities (e.g., soccer photos) sustain operations, with donations encouraged via Zeffy for easy, secure giving.

In Booneville—a historic town founded in 1828, nestled near Mount Magazine State Park and the Ouachita Mountains—the BGC SLC anchors youth support amid a landscape of natural beauty and tight-knit community spirit. It complements local anchors like schools, health services, housing, and chambers by providing essential out-of-school care that helps prevent risky behaviors, builds confidence, and opens doors to brighter futures.

Membership is open to eligible youth, with programs designed to be accessible and inclusive. Volunteers, donors, and sponsors are welcomed to join in making a difference—whether through time, resources, or event participation.

Contact the Club at their Booneville location or via the website bgcslc.org for membership inquiries, volunteering, donations, or updates. An active Facebook page (facebook.com/bgcslc1) shares news, events, and stories of impact. In South Logan County, where families value education, recreation, and neighborly support, the Boys & Girls Club of South Logan County continues to nurture potential, foster belonging, and help every child build a great future—one positive experience at a time.
